Detail – At night, the five elements gently rock back and forth, and are lit internally with blue neon. The work continues the investigation of the geologic history of the region and the prehistoric presence of a shallow, warm sea.

8’ X 30’ X 5’ Steel, fabric, neon, electric motors

The five forms that make up the sculpture are visually idealized representations of a wave. Each element is motorized, but run at slightly different speeds - phasing in and out of patterns giving the sculpture the appearance of being driven randomly by the wind.

"Vicarious" was originally installed on the roof of the Indianapolis Art Center in 2003 as part of a temporary group exhibition for recipients of the Indiana Arts Council's Creative renewal Grants. At the end of the exhibition, It was purchased as a permanent addition to their sculpture park - ARTSPARK.
